Redis Heima Practice: Distributed Cache, Multi-Level Cache, and Best Practices

ENGINEERING NOTES

Published / DavidHLPL

Heima Redis practice consists of 5 notes (6 files with duplicates): quick start, 156KB practice, distributed cache, multi-level cache, and best practices. This page compresses 200+ pages of course material into a checklist, removing screenshots and duplicate copies.

Core Mechanism

1. Quick start and practice

  • Data types, common commands, and client usage in 01.快速入门.md (Quick Start) / Redis.md are mutual duplicates (the latter is the full basic version, the former the quick version).
  • The practice article connects business scenarios through coupon flash sales, distributed locks, and message queues.

2. Distributed cache and multi-level cache

  • Distributed cache: cache consistency, repeated lookups for nonexistent data (cache penetration), concurrent misses for a hot key (cache breakdown), widespread simultaneous expiry or failure (cache avalanche), and their solutions;
  • Multi-level cache: JVM local cache + Redis + Nginx/OpenResty layers, Caffeine coordinated with Redis.

3. Best practices

  • Key design, batch operations (Pipeline/MGET), Lua scripts, and hotspot splitting.

Applicability

  • Follow the course scenarios (e-commerce coupons, Feed) as a learning path; multi-level cache suits obvious read hotspots.

Not Applicable and Risks

  • Course notes contain many screenshots, local VMs, and an unpinned Redis version; some configs drift from production.
  • The 156KB practice article has no reproducible experiments; thresholds and capacities must not be applied directly.
  • Three duplicate files (01-分布式缓存 (Distributed Cache) vs Redis高级篇-分布式缓存 (Advanced Distributed Cache) etc.) are marked as deduplicated in the raw layer.

Minimum Verification

  1. Reproduce penetration/avalanche per the distributed cache chapter and record mitigation.
  2. Load-test hit rates for multi-level layers.

Evidence and Uncertainty

  • Source facts: ingest-redis-heima contains 6 files (3 fully duplicated and marked).
  • Synthesis: This page distills the course into a learning checklist without promising production parameters.
  • Unconfirmed: Video/screenshot versions are not pinned; verify against current Redis and Spring versions.
